Cancer is a disease in which cells grow out of control abnormally and disrupts the normal tissue. There are more than 100 types of cancer such as breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, brain tumor, etc.
There are specifically two types of cancer:
#1 Malignant tumor
Malignant tumor spread to other parts of the body and is relatively more destructive.
#2 Benign tumor
Benign tumors stay in one affected place only. The treatment of cancer involves chemotherapy, surgery or radiation treatment.
Signs and symptoms of Cancer which should not be ignored:
Women body is always prone to changes. But sometimes the changes that seem to be normal can be an indication of something else. The changes are not always for good and should not be ignored. The key is to pay attention to the changes and signs which body is showing and consult a doctor to know the exact cause.
New symptoms show that there is something different happening in our body and you must know what that means. So here is what you should look for..!
#1 Changes in breast (Women)
If you experience some sudden changes in your breasts such as one of the following:
- Nipple discharge
- Redness or inflammation of your nipple or breast skin
- Nipples turning inwards
- Skin puckeringThese changes and breast lumps are not always a sign of cancer, but your doctor should examine them in detail.
#2 Between-Period Bleeding (Women)
If you start experiencing bleeding in between the periods, then this may be the sign you are looking for. Bleeding that is not a part of your monthly cycle can have other causes also. An expert doctor advice should be taken in such case.
Marleen Meyers, MD, an oncologist at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center says that one must not wait for these signs.
#3 Changes in Skin
In case you notice shifts in the color of your skin, pattern or moles then this may also be a sign. The changes in skin design and color are considered as a common sign of cancer. Spots that are new and appear to be somewhat different must be examined thoroughly and must not be ignored.
For diagnosis, your doctor will perform a biopsy in which a small piece of tissue from your body will be taken for testing.
#4 Blood in Stools or urine
Blood in stools or urine is considered to be the first sign that a person might have cancer of kidneys, colon or bladder. Talk to your doctor if the bleeding lasts more than a day or two. It may be the state that the blood in stools can be due to some other cause like hemorrhoids or urinary tract infection but it important to get examined and know the real reason.
#5 Trouble while Swallowing
In most of the cases, having trouble while swallowing is considered to be normal. There is nothing to worry about in mild cases. But if the problem persists and starts happening occasionally then an expert’s advice is required. If the trouble in swallowing is accompanied by vomiting or weight loss, there are chances of for throat or stomach cancer.
#6 Unexplainable weight loss
Clothes fitting a little loser? Most of the people do wish for loss of pounds without doing extra activities and workout. But if you experience a sudden loss in weight of more than 10 pounds without trying( such as without changing your diet pattern, without exercising), then it can be a signal of a problem. It could mean that a thyroid problem is taking a toll or a signal for pancreas, stomach, or lungs cancer.
#7 Sudden changes in mouth
People who smoke or chew tobacco are at a higher risk of mouth cancer. In case you spot white or bright-red patches inside your mouth or on your lips then this can be a clear sign of oral cancer.
#8 Changes in lymph nodes
Lymph nodes are bean-shaped glands present in our body around the neck region. Some cancers like leukemia and lymphoma cause lymphatic nodes to swell. You must pay a visit to the doctor in case you notice a lump swelling that lasts for more than a month.
The symptoms in both men and women are almost the same, except that men may experience some changes in testicles as a sign of cancer. Cancer is a serious problem, and the symptoms must not be ignored in any case.
